Strong Efforts Result In Women's Outdoor T&F Honors For GSU's Flowers, VU's Poppe

CHICAGO --- Top-level performances from Governors State University's Sophia Flowers (Romeoville, Ill.) and Avery Poppe (Hayward, Wis.) have earned the pair Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's outdoor track & field weekly accolades, the league office announced on Thursday.

Flowers, the CCAC Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring, registered the fastest 3K time in the NAIA this year at the Chicagoland Championships last Friday.  The freshman's time of 10:08 placed her second among 35 competitors and hit the 'A' standard.

Popp, meanwhile, posted a pair of Top 2 finishes to gain CCAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition.  The sophomore won the javelin throw among 22 participants at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Invite and Multi on Saturday with her school record-setting throw of 37.46 meters.

Popp also placed second out of 25 individuals in the long jump event with her distance of 5.48 meters.

Other Track Nominees: Emily Ludwig (Viterbo), Dyannara Franco (St. Francis), Olivia Mathis (Saint Xavier).

Other Field Nominees: Jamie Sierocki (Saint Xavier).
