GSU Head Men's and Women's Track and Field Coach John Niendorf had these comments on the Chicagoland meet.

"We competed in the Chicagoland outdoor championship and the meet lasted for three days. I was so happy for the entire team this weekend as I felt like they made huge strides in many of their performances. Clark Fremouw finished second place overall in the discus event. Sean O'Brien competed as our first ever GSU javelin thrower and threw 33.36 meters in the event. I was incredibly proud of our 5k runners as well in the meet as there were a plethora of personal records broken at this meet. On the women's side, Sophie Hummitsch, Morgan Pieczynski, Yahaira Rodriguez, and Avery Kittl all ran the race of their lives in the 5k. The each ran 19:46, 19:42, 20:53, and 19:20 respectively in the event. Krysta Stanko, in the other 5k heat also ran a personal record, running a 18:23, and taking fourth overall against great teams like Northern Illinois and DePaul." said Coach Niendorf.

"On the men's side for the 5k, I felt that Omar Mohamed and Samuel Rocio raced very well. They each ran 15:25 and 15:30 respectively. Colin O'Brien, Alex Ortiz, and Jack Kajmowicz all ran personal records in the 5k. It was Colin O'Briens first time breaking 16 in the 5k. Alex and Jack were also very close to breaking it as well. Other personal records hit on the men's side were Antoine Morgan, Branden DeLeon, Elija Jones, Peter Taylor, Russell Ward, Chris Sacayon, Chance Lord, and Austin Martin."

"On the women's side, Madison Siergiej, Ava Tomala, Jennifer Tomasic, Karla Luviano, and Elizabeth Rios all hit personal records in the 1500. Sydney Bonham, Jinni Jimenez, and Diana Perez all beat their own records in the 3k as well. Overall, I was pleased with these performances and it was nice to see a lot of the athletes get out there and compete hard. As the team continues to mature and grow, I see a lot of great things coming with these young men and women."
