Indoor Track Season Underway - Men's and Women's Teams With Solid Performances in Opener -

GovState men's and women's head Track and Field Coach John Niendorf had some high praise for his teams competing at the Olivet Nazarene University meet on Friday, Jan. 30.

"This was an excellent opening day for the men's and women track and field programs. There were a lot of strong performances on both sides. On the field event side, Trenyce Bonner took first overall in high jump with a 1.53 meter jump. Steven Session tied for first overall in high jump with his 1.97 meter score. This jump ranks Steven at 30th overall in the country. He also took 4th in the Triple Jump, clearing 12.87 meters. Clark Fremouw took 7th overall in shot and is now ranked 45th in the nation with his 14.93 meter throw," said Coach Niendorf.

"On the running events side, there were plenty of big prs and performances. Yahaira Rodriguez took first overall in the women's mile with a 5:39. Devon Hayes finished 7th in the mile with his 4:32. Antoine Morgan and Ryan Gayton achieved personal bests in the same event with their 4:45 and 4:59 mark, respectively. In the 800, Devon Hayes and Yahaira Rodriguez both finished 6th and 8th place, respectively. The 3k races on both the men and women's sides were thrillers. Sophia Flowers placed first overall in the race with a 10:41. Kaylee O'Sullivan took 8th overall with a 11:00. Personal records were achieved by Morgan Pieczynski and Ava Tomala with times of 11:20 and 12:37 respectively."

"On the men's side Daniel Zavala and Samuel Racio ran amazing races and were tough competitors out there. Daniel Zavala placed 3rd overall and ran an 8:55. Samuel Rocio took 4th and achieved a new 3k pr with his 8:56 performance. Ian French made his collegiate debut in the 3k with his 9:09 mark. Alex Ortiz and Elija Jones each ran personal bests with times of 9:11 and 9:26 respectively. Overall, I was pleased with the performances by the team. It was nice to get some of the new Jaguars out there and get some marks out there. Now we have a true gage of where we are at and can now build off these performances for the rest of the season., said Coach Niendorf.

The indoor season is a quick one for the Jaguars competing at three events before the CCAC Conference championship meet, Feb. 20-21 at Olivet Nazarene University.
