Sophia Flowers and Samuel Rocio - Named CCAC Conference Runners of the Week - Gov State cross teams dominate open meet of the 2025 season -

GovState cross country teams dominated the St. Francis Twilight Meet last Friday and today earned CCAC Conference Runners of the Week awards.

Freshman Sophia Flowers and Sophomore Samuel Rocio were named the CCAC Conference Runners of the Week!

Flowers won the women's 5K race last week and led the Jaguars to the women's team title beating nine teams for the meet win.

Rocio was second in the men's 5K race and the Jaguar men's team placed second in the Twilight Meet to open the 2025 cross country season.

GSU Coach John Niendorf on the two West Aurora High School runners signing with Governors State University for 2024-25 - "We are really excited to bring Branden and Samuel here to GSU. They're extremely talented athletes and are going to make an immediate impact on this team. In terms of highschool personal records they're the two fastest recruits GSU cross country has ever brought in. They're both high character athletes and care deeply about their teammates. They will be bring a nice boost in team culture as well. We can't wait to see what the future holds for these two young men."
 
Samuel Rocio on why he chose GSU - "I chose GSU because I see a promising college that can elevate me to be the best person possible. I believe that special things are coming here to GSU and I want to be a part of that."
