BOURBONNAIS, IL – Governors State's men's cross country team stepped up to the 8K distance for the first time this season at the Midwest Classic, held Friday afternoon at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course.

GSU did not score in the meet, which was won by host Olivet Nazarene (27). Saint Xavier (47) claimed second place followed by Greenville (67), Danville CC (102) and Roosevelt (146).

For the second straight week, freshman DeVenchie Catron posted the team's fastest time, finishing at 34:49.68 for a 60th place finish overall. Matthew McNeil clocked in at 37:22.51, shaving three minutes off his time from last year on the same course.

"I thought we did well today," stated GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens afterwards. "DeVenchie had some really good split times and is learning how to run a college race while Matt is just a really smart runner."

The Orange and Black will have three weeks off before resuming action at the Illinois Intercollegiate on Sept. 29 at Aspen Ridge.
